Abstract
This study investigated the perception of safety measures and their influence on sports participation and performance among undergraduate athletes in University of Benin. Three (3) research questions guided the study, aiming to find out the perception of safety equipment sport participation among undergraduate athletes of the University of Benin, determine the extent provision of safety equipment’s influence sports performance among undergraduates athletes of the University of Benin and find out the extent the safety equipment discussed been used for sports related performance.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population consists of two hundred and forty four (244) student athletes of the University of Benin, one hundred and forty five (145) male athletes and ninety nine (99) female athletes.The multistage sampling procedure was used to select the athletes.A structured questionnaire design by the researcher was used to retrieve data from the respondents. The reliability of the instrument was established using a spilt-half method, the data collected was subjected to Pearson product moment correlation and the reliability of the instrument was established. The questionnaire was distributed physically to students athletes across all levels in University of Benin.
