Abstract
In this study, parents' and educators' opinions about sex education for junior secondary school students in Edo State's Oredo Local Government Area are investigated. Recognizing that junior secondary school children are in a critical developmental stage, especially with regard to their sexuality, the views of parents and educators about comprehensive sex education were investigated. We developed four study questions to look at this problem in depth. The sample, which used a descriptive methodology, was made up of 100 parents and educators who were chosen at random from among the 13 public secondary schools in the Oredo Local Government Area. This sample was deemed representative as it represented 3.9% of all the parents and teachers in the region. The main tool used for the research was a questionnaire called "The Perception of Parents and Teachers Towards Sex Education of Junior Secondary School Students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State." The study questions confirmed that opinions of parents and teachers regarding sex education have a big influence on secondary school pupils. The findings showed that attitudes of parents and instructors on sex education in junior secondary school children were impacted by several characteristics, including age, marital status, religion, and academic standing. Furthermore, the results showed that negative attitudes outnumbered positive ones. Although sex education is important, the Oredo Local Government Area's parents and instructors have unfavorable attitudes, which the research found to be a hindrance in its implementation. As a result, suggestions were made, such as introducing sex education into junior secondary schools and making sure that only certified instructors provide it, as well as properly orienting stakeholders on the significance of educating kids about sex. These suggestions seek to bridge the current gaps and improve the region's provision of comprehensive sex education.
