ABSTRACT
This work focuses on the study of the Nigerian English and its varieties as used in Edo Broadcasting service. The aim of this study is to identify the features of the Nigerian English speech in Edo Broadcasting Service and to evaluate the varieties of the Nigerian English and their features in relation to the categories already established. The data was collected via audio and video recordings obtained from the Edo Broadcasting Service. This research employed the Kachru’s 1992 model of New Englishes as its theoretical framework. During the course of this research it was discovered that the Nigerian English has three varieties and that these three varieties were exhibited by the participants from Edo Broadcasting Service. It was discovered during this work that it was possible for a speaker of the Nigerian English to exhibit features of more than one variety of the Nigerian English, yet only the feature of one variety would be dominant.
