ABSTRACT

This research investigates the detrimental consequences of traditional beliefs on human rights as portrayed in Chinua Achebe's Arrow of God and Buchi Emecheta's The Joys of Motherhood. The primary objective is to identify and analyze the adverse effects of these traditional practices on human rights, focusing on three critical dimensions: violations of bodily rights and the right to life, manifestations of discrimination and inequality, and constraints placed on individual autonomy. Through a critical literary analysis, this study aims to shed light on how deeply ingrained traditional beliefs can infringe upon fundamental human rights and provide insights into the broader implications of these issues in contemporary society.
