SUMMARY

From the data analysis, it can be concluded that motivation is an important variable in performance and productivity. While the importance of motivation and performance cannot be over emphasize in any organization, it has been observed that human -icings differ in needs and therefore have different factors of motivation. The findings indicate how writers like Vroom (1964), theorizes that people can only commit effort to work when efforts can yield reward. On the other hand, writers like Maslow (1954), Herzberg (1966) and McGregor (1960) argued that the primary factors needed to be satisfied by a worker are such variables as self-actualization, achievement, recognition, association with colleagues etc. The findings also reveal that there is a significant correlation between motivation and performance that regular checks and inspections are also necessary for increased output and that adequate motivation will definitely lead to better performance of BEDC staff.
