ABSTRACT

The emergence of Boko Haram insurgency has wreaked untold economic and social devastation on the people. This essay explores the menace of Boko Haram insurgency as depicted in Idris Amali’s poems in the collection, Tears of Desert War. The essay employs textual analysis to interpret the poems while relying on post-colonial otherness as the theoretical standpoint. In depicting the menace of Boko Haram insurgency, the poet reveals that economic destruction and physical loss of lives are the effects of insurgency while insisting that denunciation, investigation and prosecution of corrupt military officers will trigger the end of insurgency in Nigeria.
