ABSTRACT

This study examines the goals, theoretical framework, methodology and findings on the linguistic appraisal of the internet and present-day youth use of Igbo within the Umuelewe community in Enugu State, Nigeria. The goal of this study is to provide means to curtail the negative influence of the internet one the use of Igbo language amongst the youths of Umuelewe community in Enugu State. Drawing from the theoretical frameworks which is language contact, language variation, and language change, and the methodology sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, and digital communication studies,the study is analysed. The research explores the impact of digital technologies on language use, attitudes, and identity among Igbo-speaking youth. Through the method of interviews, the study investigates how the internet shapes linguistic practices and cultural expression within the community. The findings highlight the complex interplay between language and technology, shedding light on language maintenance efforts, identity formation, and community dynamics in the digital age. By addressing gaps in existing literature and providing practical insights for language revitalization and community development.A
