ABSTRACT
This study investigates the integration of play as a pedagogical tool for enhancing early childhood skills in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the significance of play in adequately preparing children for subsequent stages of childhood and future educational endeavors with the objective of investigate the efficacy of various play-based activities in nurturing specific skill sets and also to examine the holistic impact of employing play as a learning strategy on a child's overall development. The population of this study was 360 teachers in public primary school and the sample size was 60 percent of the total population. The research instrument used for the study was questioners. Based on the findings the following findings were found .That there was a strong agreement among respondents on the effectiveness of integrating play as a pedagogical tool, that play-based learning might be irrelevant to skill development, there was stronger agreement that learning through play significantly contributes to skill development, that school location has a significant influence on the effectiveness of play in skill development and that play have little influence on the effectiveness of play as a learning strategy. Based on the findings the following recommendations were made: Schools should be equipped with up-to-date technological resources, including computers, tablets, and educational software, to facilitate personalized and engaging learning experiences for young learners. Regular training programs and workshops should be organized to enhance teachers' skills in integrating technology and play-based learning into their curriculum and schools should actively engage parents in the educational process, providing them with the knowledge and tools to support their children's learning at home.
