ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the internet on the education of Nigerian youths using the University of Benin (UNIBEN) students Ekehuan campus, Benin City, Edo state as study. The study determine the frequency of internet usage among Nigerian youths and also ways Nigerian youths use the internet. This study was premised on the tenets of the diffusion of innovation theory. This study is necessary as the internet, as an academic tool is capable of affecting learning positively and negatively. The survey design was used for the study: a 9-item questionnaire was shared among youths. Data obtained were presented and analysed using frequency tables and simple percentage. The study discovered that youths constant use of the internet have few negative influence on their education. In the study, it was discovered that the use of the internet have more positive and negative influence on the education of Nigerian youths. Factors that hinders the use of the internet like low power supply, high cost of subscription, and slow network were also exposed in the study. This study therefore concluded that without the internet, education of Nigerian youths would not be complete. The study recommended that tertiary institutions play a major role in educating youths on how to remain safe while using the internet in order to curb the negative influence of the internet on their education.
