ABSTRACT
This study was designed to ascertain the integration of the influence of socio economic status and peer pressure on adolescent behaviour on students of Emotan college, Benin city. . Four (4) research questions were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey. The total population of students in JSS1, JSS2 and JSS3 in the sampled area. A total number of 15 public schools in Oredo Local Government Area comprising of 3,672 junior secondary school students from JSS1-JSS3. A simple random sampling technique was utilised to select 150 respondents(students) in Emotan college in Oredo Local Government Area, which are 150 respondents(junior secondary school students) in total. The research instrument for the study was a Questionnaire titled: “the influence of socio economic status and peer pressure on adolescent behaviour on students of Emotan college Benin city. ”, which was distributed to the respondents and collected immediately after completion from respondents. The simple percentage and mean score was used in computing the responses of the questionnaire items. To account for the reliability of the study, the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used which gave a value of 0.821. Findings regarding socioeconomic status indicated that adolescents perceive significant influences on their behavior, such as limitations in participation in certain activities and feeling pressured to achieve more due to family status.
