ABSTRACT
This study investigated the influence of social media on the participation of Human Kinetics students in sports. A quantitative research approach was employed, using a structured questionnaire to collect data from 100 respondents.
The questionnaire elicited information on the respondents’ demographic characteristics, outdoor recreational sports participation, and perceptions of climate change. The results showed that climate change has a significant impact on outdoor recreational sports participation, with temperature, rainfall, and humidity being the most significant factors. The study also revealed that the level of awareness and concern about social media relevance and use was relatively high.
The findings of this study have implications for sports administrators, coaches, and student-athletes involved in the use of social media for sports participation and developement. Recommendations were made for strategies to mitigate the negative impact of social media among student-athletes of tertiary institutions.
