The influence of social media on the academic performance of undergraduates

Summary

     This study was aimed at examining the influence of social media on the academic performance of undergraduates of the university of benin. Discoveries demonstrated that an extraordinary number of students in UNIBEN know so much about the different social media platform and have access to them. The sample size of this study was derived using Taro Yamene's statistical formula while simple random and purposive sampling techniques were adopted using 398 respondents from 13 faculties in UNIBEN. The result obtained showed that the students addictiveness to social media is of great importance to their academic performance. The importance of social media cannot be overemphasized as it has been of great help to students and will continue to be. However,social media is like a double edged sword,it has both the negative and positive influence on students depending on how they decide to use it.
