ABSTRACT
The study focused on the influence of learning environment on the academic performance of adult learners in Benin City, Edo State. A total of one hundred and forty-four (144) adult learners in Benin City, Edo State, was adopted as the study's sample. One hundred and eighteen (118) of these questionnaires were retrieved and used for the study's empirical analysis. The obtained data were analysed using frequency counts, simple percentages, mean and standard deviation. Based on the obtained and analysed data the followings are the salient findings; the physical design of learning spaces, social interactions within educational institutions, the available technological resources within the learning environment influences the academic success of adult learners, the ambient environmental quality (lighting, noise levels, temperature) in educational facilities play a major role in shaping the academic performance of adult learners in Benin City. Also adult learners have a positive perception of the influence of their learning environment on their academic motivation and engagement in Benin City, Edo State. Based on these findings, it was recommended that: Incorporating elements such as ergonomic furniture, adequate space, and flexibility in classroom layouts can significantly enhance learner engagement and comfort, thereby potentially improving academic performance, institutions should create more opportunities for collaborative learning, group projects, and peer-to-peer engagement, Educational institutions should invest in up-to-date technological tools and digital platforms that support learning.
