THE INFLUENCE OF CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES ON THE PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to investigate the influence of Christian Religious Studies on peaceful coexistence among secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The descriptive survey research was used for the study. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire. The method of data analysis used in analyzing the data gotten from the respondents was simple percentage and table. Findings from the study revealed that the level of intolerance among secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State was to a large extent low. Findings also revealed that the predominant causes of intolerance are bullying, discrimination and negative stereotypes among certain groups on social media platforms. Findings also revealed that they are certain effects of intolerance on the school and the students, both the students and school is affected by intolerance. Findings revealed that Christian Religious Studies has helped to improve peaceful coexistence in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Findings also revealed that more needs to be done by the government and teachers to eradicate intolerance completely. Also teachers are to impact the right knowledge on students. Based on the findings recommendation were made.
