ABSTRACT
This study is aimed to dissect the role of architecture as an economic driver. The area of study is sustainable architecture, how its practices enables and serve as an economic driver especially in leu of the global awakening on the need to address global warming and climate change effects through the promotion of sustainable practices. This research work seeks to document types and aspects of sustainable architecture with respect to cost, techniques for construction materials, functionality, economic benefits and rate of acceptability. The study makes judicious use of photographs. Constructive review of literature, documents, journals, books that pertains to the study title was employed and aided in the critical examination of the concepts of sustainability, schools of thought of the sustainable movement, development of the economy through sustainable architectural practices and ideals. Additionally, this study also underlies the significance, values and importance of sustainable architecture. The proposals of the study are geared towards sensitizing and Orientation regarding the need and long-term economic benefits of sustainable architecture. It examines challenges and issues that prompt disillusioning and apathy towards sustainable practices and recommends that, to reap the economic benefits of sustainable architecture, certain moves, framework and promotions be made, entertained and implemented and driven towards making our built society sustainable with obvious effects on the economy.
The result of this study would be impactful for stakeholders and professionals in the built industry so as to stem up the practice of Sustainable Architecture in view of its economic potentials.
