SUMMARY
The findings of this study contribute to the growing body of scholarship that seeks to explain the continuous underrepresentation of women in academic leadership positions in Nigeria. Drawing upon existing literature that focuses on the exclusion and discrimination of women in leadership positions, the study identifies the experiences of women in leadership positions in the University of Benin with a case study of the Vice Chancellors Professor Lilian Salami. The first chapter comprised of an introduction, aim and objectives, scope of the study, methodology and literature review, chapterisation and endnotes. The second chapter examined the historical antecedence of the women contributions to the development of education in Nigeria. The third chapter surveyed the nature and effects of women in the educational sectors in Nigeria. The third chapter also identifies a case study of Lillian Salimi biography and her role and activities in the University of Benin and also captured the impact of Lillian Salimi in promoting education in Nigeria. The fourth chapter observed the challenges faced by women in the education sectors and possible way to curb in it.
