ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to examine the impact of vocational skills training on women economic empowerment in Egor Local Government. This study made use of the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted One hundred (100) students which is also the sample respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection for this study was a self-constructed close-ended questionnaire the researcher's supervisors were part of the validation team. Data obtained from the study were analysed using mean score analysis.

It was found in this study that Vocational skill training can; provide women with skills and knowledge to start their own business, boost their self esteem, provide access to network of women and other business owners, and empower them with the tools and knowledge to succeed all of which can enable the women participate in decision making processes related to economic activities in Egor Local Government Area. Organization of  workshops, seminars and community outreach programs, collaboration with NGOs for training programmes, establishment of affordable and easily accessible training centres, and availability of grants and microfinance loans are the ways in which vocational skills can be promoted to achieve economic development in Egor Local Government Area.Equipment with specific knowledge and skills, enhancement of skills, multiple streams of income, and creation of jobs are the ways in which vocational training affect income-generating capacities of women in Egor Local Government Area.Boost in self-competence and achievement, financial independence, respect and recognition in the society, and overcoming of self-doubt and negative perception are the ways vocational skills training affect the self-esteem and confidence of women in Egor Local Government Area.Gender roles, domestic chores and child care, early marriage and childbirth and financial dependency on their husbands are the challenges influencing women from participating in vocational training programmes.

On the basis of the findings, it was concluded that vocational skill training plays a crucial role in empowering women in Egor Local Government Area by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for entrepreneurship, financial independence, and active participation in economic decision-making. Through workshops, training centers, and financial support, women can enhance their income-generating capacities, achieve multiple streams of income, and contribute to job creation. Additionally, vocational training improves their self-esteem, confidence, and societal recognition. However, challenges such as gender roles, domestic responsibilities, early marriage, and financial dependence continue to hinder women's full participation in these programs. Addressing these barriers is essential for fostering sustainable economic development and gender equality in the region.
