SUMMARY
This study commences with a broad examination of the state of pre-war Ngor-Okpala community, with special regard to its geographical, socio-cultural, economic and political structures. It stresses the impact of modernism and the disorientation caused by the civil war on these structures. The events of the war on Ngor-Okpala and the experience of the people are discussed in the third chapter. This covers the causes of the war, the role played by the people to mellow down, especially the humanitarian challenges posited by the war.
The findings of the study have shown the various ways the war impacted the social, economic and cultural life of the people. It begins by pointing out how the war forced the people to relocate to bushes and other less secure zones of the direct military activities. It also addresses the physical and economic devastation fuelled by the economic blockade imposed by the Federal Military Government on the region, and also stresses the attendant hunger and starvation which the blockade triggered.
