ABSTRACT
This study glances at the terrible impact that the Nigerian Civil War had on the people of Asaba, a town in the Delta region of Nigeria. Study adopts historical method and data was collected from both primary and secondary sources. The study reveals that Asaba, which was taken over by federal forces in 1967, was significantly impacted by the 1967–1970 conflict. Many areas of the town were destroyed, people were displaced, and many lives were lost as a result of the occupation; estimates place the death toll at over 70% of the citizens. The physical and psychological effects of the war on the Asaba people are examined in this study using oral testimonies, archival records, and secondary sources. The effects include the destruction of houses, businesses, and infrastructure, the uprooting of communities, and the long-term psychological trauma experienced by survivors. The study also reveals that the war had a profound impact on Asaba's social, economic, and cultural fabric, perpetuating intergenerational trauma and hindering the town's development. The findings of this study highlight the need for acknowledgment, reconciliation, and reparative justice for the victims of the Nigeria Civil War, particularly in Asaba.n
