ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of technology on adult learning in Egor local government area of Edo State. The study adopted the survey research design and was guided by five research questions. The population of the study comprised of 143 adult learners with a sample of 75 respondents. The instrument for data collection was a self-designed structured questionnaire divided into two sections. Section A and B, section A covered the demographic information of the respondents such as age and, occupation while section B consisted of the information which borders on the problem of the study. Twenty (20) items were used to address the objectives of the study and the items on the research instrument were designed in a modified Four-Point Likert Scale format of SA Strongly Agreed, A Agreed, DA Disagreed, SD Strongly Disagreed which was discussed and analysed using frequency count, percentages and mean score. The results showed that the integration of technology has contributed immensely to the learning outcomes of adult learners in Egor local government area of Edo state as 3 out of 4 items raised strongly agreed to this assertion. The finding also revealed that the incorporation of technology has greatly contributed to the development of digital skills among adult learners.
Furthermore, it was also revealed that the availability and utilization of technology has significantly influence the engagement and participation levels of adult learners in the teaching and learning environment. On the basis of the foregoing, the study recommended, among others, that More implementation strategies should be made to further integrate technology into adult learning programmes to enhance learning outcomes and develop digital skills. Also There should be a comprehensive training programmes for adult educators and learners on how to effectively utilize technology for teaching and learning purposes, focusing on digital literacy skills and integrating technology into curriculum delivery. The literacy programmes providers and managers should design a learning activities and assessments that leverage on technology to foster critical thinking skills among adult learners.
In conclusion, the study highlights the substantial impact of technology integration on the learning outcomes of adult learners in Egor local government area of Edo state, as evidenced by the overwhelming agreement among respondents. Notably, the incorporation of technology has not only enhanced learning outcomes but has also played a crucial role in fostering the development of digital skills among adult learners. Additionally, the study underscores the pivotal role of technology in increasing engagement and participation levels within the teaching and learning environment. Moving forward, it is recommended that more robust implementation strategies be devised to further integrate technology into adult learning programs, thereby amplifying learning outcomes and nurturing digital proficiency among learners.
