THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY IN PROMOTING LEARNING AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study sought to carry out an analysis on the impact of technology in promoting learning using Oredo local government area as a case study. The major objective of this study is to examine the impact of technology in promoting learning among school children. To achieve this, the following questions were raised, How does technology impact the language development of pre-primary pupils?What is the effect of technology on the literacy development of pre-primary pupils?How do educators utilize technology to facilitate learning in the classroom? And lastly, In what ways does technology influence the cognitive development of pre-primary pupils? The population of this study consist of all primary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo. A sample size of 100 respondents were used, 20 schools were randomly selected, five teachers from each of the schools were selected making it a total of hundred respondents. The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire. The questionnaire is divided into two sections. Section A contains the personal data of the respondents, section B is made up of 12 items to elicit responses from the subject matter. It was rated using a 4-point Likert scale of Strongly Agree (SA) = 4 Points, Agree (A) = 3 points, Disagree (D) = 2 points, Strongly disagree (SD) = 1 point. The result of the study has shown technology can offer unique learning opportunities to children, it was deduced from the responses of the respondents that technology can facilitate learning in the classrooms. Based on the findings of the study and conclusion drawn, it was recommended that there is need to incorporate technology in teaching process, there is need for children to have access to devices that are age appropriate, there is need for offer digital training to both children and Educators, these and many others were recommended from the research of the study.
