THE IMPACT OF TEACHER’S TEACHING METHODS ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN ECONOMICS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study examined the principal leadership styles on teacher's job performance in public junior secondary school in Oredo local Government Area of Edo State. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consists of 120 teachers in 13 public secondary school in Oredo Local Government of Edo State. The sample for this study consist of fourty (40) junior secondary school teachers purposively drawn from 4 public junior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government of Edo State. The research questions was answered using mean statistics while Pearson's product moment correlation formula and chi square was used to test hypotheses one and two respectively at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that the level of teacher's job performance in public junior secondary schools in Oredo local government area is high. The findings also revealed the teachers' job performance in secondary schools was high. A significant relationship exist between principal leadership styles and teachers job performance in junior public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government. Based on the findings, it was recommended that school principal should apply the most efficient leadership styles which ensure effective communication, promote a supportive environment and engage teachers in decision making in their schools to promote growth and enhance their teachers job performance.
