ABSTRACT
The study sought to find out the impact of teachers job motivation on their job performance in public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East local government area of Edo state. Using a sample of 77 respondents by means of the proportional and purposive sampling techniques. To guide the study, five (5) research questions were raised. Research question 1-2 were answered directly while 3-5 were hypothesized. The study is a correlational survey that adopted correlation design for investigation. The study population composed all the twenty five (25) public senior secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state. Proportional and purposive sampling techniques was adopted, teachers in sample schools served as respondents. There was two self -structured questionnaires titled teachers motivation questionnaire (TMQ) and teachers job performance questionnaire (TJPQ). The questionnaire titled teachers job motivation questionnaire (TMQ) was used to elicit information from the respondents on the elements of their motivation while teachers job performance questionnaire (TJPQ) was used to elicit responses from respondents on the elements of their job performance. Cronbach alpha was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.75 was obtained. The instruments were validated by the researchers supervisor and one expert from the department of educational management as well as one statistician (evaluator) from the department of educational evaluation and counseling psychology, all from the faculty of education. Descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation were used to answer research question 1 and 2. Pearson moment correlation coefficient and fisher z statistics were used to answer the hypothesized questions 3 to 5 respectively. Findings of the study revealed that teachers motivation influences their job performance. The study Adlai revealed that the level of teachers job performance in public senior secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state is high. A significant relationship was found to exist between teachers motivation and their job performance. The study also revealed that there is no significant difference in the relationship between teachers motivation and their job performance in public senior secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state based on school location. In the same vein, the findings also revealed that there's no significant difference in the relationship between teachers motivation and their job performance based on class size. The study recommended that the government should not relent in its action in motivating teachers and can still do more to enhance teachers motivation hence their job performance since the responses from the conducive class size, teachers salaries being able to afford the basic necessities of life and sufficiency of teaching aids recorded low extent responses. The government should not relent in its efforts in the motivation of teachers in order to reinforce this positive behavior/output. The government should retain the current positive progress and cover the lapses and discrepancies affecting teachers job performance. The government should invest in other areas that are lagging behind and not consider school location as a motivational factor that influences their job performance. The government should improve teachers teaching aids and other indices that affects teachers job performance.
