THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL JUSTICE IN AFRICA TRADITIONAL RELIGION IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The intersection of African traditional religion and social justice remains a relatively unexplored terrain in contemporary discourse, particularly in the context of Edo State, Nigeria. This study seeks to address this knowledge gap. The primary aim of this research is to investigate and comprehend the concept of social justice within the framework of African traditional religion in Edo State. The specific objectives include the examination of religious rituals, ethical codes, and indigenous governance systems to identify their influence on social justice practices. This study employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative research methods, such as interviews and content analysis, with quantitative surveys. Data will be gathered from both practitioners of African traditional religion and non-practitioners to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The research focuses exclusively on the Edo State region in Nigeria, acknowledging the cultural diversity within the state. It primarily examines the religious practices and beliefs of Edo people and their influence on social justice within the community. This research aims to contribute to the broader understanding of the dynamics between religion and social justice in Africa, shedding light on the role of traditional belief systems in shaping social values. The study is warranted given the increasing importance of cultural preservation and understanding in the face of globalization. By exploring the concept of social justice in African traditional religion in Edo State, this research offers a valuable contribution to both academia and the preservation of local heritage.
