Summary of Result

The research has been able to study the socio-demographic characteristics of respondents as well as the impact of rural-urban migration on housing condition in Egor Local Government Area, Benin City. After careful analysis and synthesis of the data collected from the field a series of discovery were made, and these include the following;

Firstly, it was discovered that the socio-demographic characteristic is not evenly distributed within the political wards of the Local Government Area studied. It was discovered that Egor Local Government Area is unique, in the sense that, it is one of local government area that makes up the eighteen (18) local government area of Edo state and also Egor is one of the local government amongst the five (5) local governments that make up Benin City. Hence, it cover a large expanse of space as well as having large population. Egor can be considered as the second largest local government area in Benin City after Oredo local government.

Secondly, it was discovered that the sampled population within the study, conform to the socio-demographic grouping with Ugbowo and Uselu representing the high socio-economic class having expensive houses as expected, as well as high rate of migrants due to learning institutions and market situated there. Okhoro the middle socio-economic class, while Evbuotubu and Egor representing the lowest socio-economic class within the studied area, with cheap as well as bad housing structures.

The hypothesis tested shows that there is no significant relationship between rural-urban migration on housing in Egor local government area, Benin City. The result shows a negative correlation between the rating of the condition of the house and the level of rural-urban migration in the studied area by the respondents.

The result from the study depicts that the type of housing structures in the study area fails to meet good housing standards and as such has become a norm particularly for people living in urban areas to live in houses that are deficient in basic amenities by modern standards. The result of the analysis also shows that the housing-population relationship is faced with challenges such as congestion as it is common to find four persons in a room and this violates United Nations standard houses. Also, it will lead to considerable number of the population to live in sub-standard houses. This is occasioned by absolute lack of housing or inability to provide more houses.
