THE IMPACT OF RELIGIOUS VS SECULAR SCHOOLS ON THE MORAL BEHAVIOR OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the Impact of Religious vs Secular schools on the moral behavior of Secondary School students in Benin City, Edo state. Seven research questions were raised to guide this study. The instrument used in collecting data for this study was a questionnaire. The population of this study is One hundred and fifty students (150) from religious schools and One hundred and fifty students(150) from secular schools in Benin city, Edo state. The questionnaire was approved by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in measurement and evaluation. The reliability of the instrument was evaluated during the testretest method. The data generated for this study was analyzed with the use of descriptive statistics(tables and percentages). The findings from this study revealed that religious and secular schools have significant impacts on the moral behavior of secondary school students. It was also revealed that both religious and secular schools contribute in various ways to the moral behavior of students. It was recommended that moral education should be integrated into the curriculum regardless of a student’s religious beliefs.
