ABSTRACT
Radio is an effective tool for Mass Communication; it goes a long way in informing and educating members of the society. The researcher examined the extent in which Area Parliament educates the audience on political education. The study was limited to residents of Oredo local Government area, Benin City, Edo state. The objectives of the study were to find out how much impact Area Parliament has had on the citizens of the state, to determine the extent at which the program educates citizens on politics and the measures that can be taken to improve the program based on the feedback received. The survey method of data analysis was used majorly while a brief content analysis was made to examine contents from the Programme and how they have influenced the audiences; using a questionnaire with 17 major items which were administered to 399 respondents. The researcher used the agenda setting theory as well as social responsibility theory to back up the research work. The findings pointed out the fact that the radio programme, Area Parliament has done a great deal of political education through their pidgin English show. It was also gathered that low transmission signals hinder the smooth running of the show. The study therefore recommended that the signals be properly upgraded to ensure the audiences get better access to the signals for clearer broadcast. It further recommended that the station give better audience to researchers and allow for better, easier and more access to information.
