THE IMPACT OF POPULATION DENSITY ON THE QUALITY OF HOUSING IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

ABSTRACT

This study examines the impact of population density on the quality of housing in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The study was carried out using both primary and secondary data. In all, 200 questionnaires were administered in five of the ten political Wards in the study area, where respondents were randomly selected along major streets. But only 181 questionnaires were returned valid for analysis. Using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS), various statistical techniques and representations were employed in analyzing the data. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation technique was used to test the hypothesis of the study and model a relationship between population density and housing quality. The result showed that there was a correlation between residential density and the quality of housing in the study area. The study therefore, is of the view that if the quality of housing in Egor Local Government Area is to be improved, then the rate of population increase in the area should be controlled and housing policies of the government at Federal and State levels should be extended to the local government area of study.
