ABSTRACT

The study investigated the impact of orphanage homes on the educational development of children in primary schools in Oredo Local Government Edo State. In order to carry out this study, four research questions were raised as a guide for the study. The  study adopted descriptive survey  research design.The population of the study comprised  of  all the teachers of primary schools in Oredo Local Government Edo State. The sample consist of sixty (60) primary school teachers from ten (10) schools in Oredo Local Government area edo state consisting six (6) primary school teachers from each of the of the schools selected.The instrument for the study was a questionnaire designed after review of related literature. The instrument was validated by three lecturers in the institute of  Education. The reliability of the instrument was established using test-retest giving index of 0.83. The data generated was analyzed using frequency counts, and simple percentage. The study shows that orphanage homes play a significant role in the educational development of children in primary schools. In addition to the knowledge of  their role in this regard. However, the study noted the preponderance of constraints on the Impact of Orphanages in the educational development of children in primary schools. Based on this, it was recommended that orphanage homes should establish strong collaborations with primary schools, caregivers in orphanage homes should undergo regular training to understand the unique educational needs of the children, orphanage homes should provide psychological support to children, as their emotional well-being is crucial for their educational development, the government should enact policies that ensure orphanage homes prioritize the educational development of children, the community should be encouraged to participate in the educational development of children in orphanage homes, and there should be a system in place for continuous assessment of the children's educational progress. This will ensure that the children's educational development is monitored and any challenges they face will be addressed promptly.
