ABSTRACT
This study focuses attention on the National Directorate of Employment in solving unemployment problem in Edo State. Using National Directorate of employment, Oredo Local Government Area as a case study. A questionnaire, which was type was made use of and it contains twenty (20) items to which responses were made and the outcome of the analysis brought about the conclusion that the exposure of people to acquire various skills, knowledge and competence have been made possible by the national directorate of employment and job opportunities are also made available through the effort of the organisation. This research findings also revealed the problems faced by the National Directorate of employment, some of which are inadequate awareness of the programmes of the NDE, which has led to poor enrolment in its skill acquisition schemes and poor funding which has undermined the effectiveness of NDE. In view of the findings and conclusions made in this study, it is recommended that in order for the national directorate of employment to impact significantly on unemployment reduction in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State through each of its scheme (NOAS, ESDTS and MBSTS) the directorate should significantly increase the number of beneficiaries of the three schemes in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
