ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to investigate the impact of international migrants remittances on poverty reduction in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The study explored the the migration of people from the study area by looking at the migrant quota leaving the area, this is in relation to how these migrants send remittances from their destination international area into the study area. The migrants remittances was also investigated to understand how impactful they were in helping to alleviate or reduce poverty in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.
All related data required for the study was collected using primary data through direct observation, and administration of structured questionnaires to form the basis of the research work. The secondary data for this study came from worldwide web, published journals, published authoritative books and relevant reference academic works, also, some works which cited reputable sources which have not been published academically was used secondarily. The data used for the work was gotten by way of structured questionnaire administered to one hundred and seventy five (175) respondents in Ego Local Government Area in a random order. The resultant data was collated and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27 and presented using tables, frequency counts, percentages and charts. The hypotheses guiding the study was tested using correlation and the Kendall’s coefficient of concordance statistical analysis to validate the stated hypotheses.
The study revealed the rate in which migrant remittances contribute to poverty reduction in the study area as well as relationship between international migrants remittances and poverty reduction in the area. The study also investigated the impacts of migrant remittances on poverty reduction in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.
The study concluded by conducting research in the area through questionnaire administration, analysis and presentation of results in Chapter four which revealed positive results of migrant remittances from the diaspora to the study area. The respondents data revealed disparities in gender within the migrant population which highlighted majority of male migrants. Furthermore, revelations exist about the impact of international migrants remittances which has improved infrastructure and living standards of the population of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State Nigeria.
