ABSTRACT
The impact of the Boko Haram insurgency on Borno State has been extensive and multifaceted. This study has examined the insurgency's consequences across various dimensions, including socio-economic, governance, security, and psychological aspects. As we conclude, it is essential to recapitulate the key findings and reflect on the path forward for Borno State. This study underscores the significant toll exacted by Boko Haram's activities on the overall well-being, prosperity, and socio-economic fabric of Borno State and its populace. Small-scale industries have been ravaged and forced to close down, while public-commercial enterprises have faced disruptions, resulting in the loss of billions of dollars from the state since the onset of the Boko Haram insurgency. This dire situation has engendered food insecurity, healthcare crises, and the deterioration of the educational system, social cohesion, political stability, and economic institutions. The flight of numerous foreign entrepreneurs from Borno State, due to the destruction wrought by insurgents, has exacerbated the situation. This exodus has precipitated job losses, a decline in state revenue, a surge in unemployment rates, and the obliteration of numerous livelihood sources. These circumstances necessitate and demand concerted efforts from both foreign and domestic governments to intervene and facilitate the restoration of peace, as well as socio-economic and political stability in the state.
