ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to examine the impact of indecent dressing on the academic performance among students in the University of Benin, Benin City.
The research was carried out in the Faculty of Education using the Department of Educational Evaluation and Counselling Psychology as the sample. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, four research were raised to guide the study. The study adopted the descriptive survey design in which was used in conducting study and also adopted the simple random technique by balloting to carry out the research. One hundred (100) participants were randomly selected to carry out the research. The instrument used to collect data for the study was structured by the researcher. A reliability of 0.86 was gotten using the Cronbach Alpha analysis, data obtained from the questionnaire was subjected using the mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed the major impacts of indecent dressing within higher institutions in Nigeria. overall, respondents indicated a moderate level of significance regarding these impacts, with an acknowledgement that indecent dressing has notable effects on various aspects of educational system. Conversely, the findings also revealed the perceived effective measures to curb indecent dressing among students in higher institution. The descriptive analysis indicate that respondents generally view these measures as highly effective.
It was concluded that indecent dressing, can create distractions, affect concentration and disrupt the learning environment, thereby impeding academic progress. The researcher therefore, recommend that the university develop and enforce clear dress code policies that outline acceptable attire for students.
