ABSTRACT

The study of this thesis is the impact of globalization in Journalism practice in Nigeria and the extent to which it has affected Nigeria’s development and international relations in the field of journalism. The term “Globalization” is used to characterize the increasing interdependence of the economies cultures, and populations throughout the world as a result of technology, cross border trade in goods and services, and flows of capital, labour and information. Through globalization, concept, information, expertise, goods and service expand internationally. However it takes less time than ever to interact with people and it takes less time to move from one place to another such as across the globe) with the help of globalization it is easier for journalist to interact with people and get result to their findings globally. However it has also beer said that the global news media have influenced Nigerian society. The study suggests that the effect of the global media on Nigeria are psychological, sociological, economic development and international relations. Furthermore, the benefits of media globalization are unevenly shared and its casts are unevenly distributed, the main beneficiaries being the developed nations, while the developing are disadvantaged. The study recommends the promotion and strengthening of the local media in Nigeria.
