THE IMPACT OF FIELD TRIP ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF HISTORY STUDENTS IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This research work is based on the Impact of Field Trip on the Academic Performance of History Student in Senior Secondary School in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The purpose of the Study is to investigate the impact of field trip in the academic performance of history study in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study adopted survey research design. A sample of hundred (100) respondents while the instrument for data collection used was a structured questionnaire which had 20 items and titled “Impact of Field Trip on the Academic Performance of History Student in Senior Secondary School, “It was a constructed around the research questions by the researcher and validated by the research’s supervisor. The data responses were analyzed with the use of regression analytic approach of simple percentage. The study concluded that impact of field trip affects the academic performance of students, Also students taught using field trip are captivated, more focused, interested about studying history and should be included in the school curriculum . Based on the finding of the study, the following recommendations were made for the study: The study recommends that history teachers should be encouraged to adapt field trip while teaching history. Edo state Government should provide all the necessary logistics for conducting regular field trip by teachers of history.
