ABSTRACT
The study empirically examined the relationship between corruption and economic development in Edo-state and residents of Edo-state responses. The impact of corruption on Nigeria economic development using Edo-state as a case study Examine the various aspects of Economic development, in terms of infrastructural development, resource allocation and public service, income inequality, business growth and operation and foreign investment in Edo-state. The total population used were 360 resident in Edo-state and the total 18 local government were involved.
The purpose of the study is to identify specific ways corruption affect economic development in Edo-state, To assess how corruption influence the allocation of resources within the state, to Find a way to reduce corruption in Nigeria, To examine how businesses in Edo-state perceive corruption impact on their operations and growth and to examine how corruption affects foreign investment in Edo-state. The population of the study includes individuals, organisations and institutions within Edo-state that are affected by or have a stake in the economy. This encompasses government officials, business entities, non governmental organizations and citizens at large which includes student. The primary research instrument for data collection will be a structured questionnaire.
The findings of the study showed that corruption do affect the economic development of Nigeria using Edo-state as the case study. The study recommends that The anti-corruption agencies should be strengthened.It recommends that transparency measures should be enforced. That Elevating civic education is needed, it recommends advocating for whistleblowers protection and reinforcing monitoring institutions within Edo-state.
