ABSTRACT
This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the intricate relationship between the impact of climate in Nigeria politics. Climate change has emerged as a significant issue with far-reaching implications for Nigeria's political landscape. The effects of climate change, such as desertification, flooding, and soil degradation, have led to food shortages, displacement of communities, and loss of livelihoods, which have in turn fueled social tensions, resource conflicts, and political instability. This study points out that one of the most significant impacts of climate change on Nigerian politics is the exacerbation of existing social and economic inequalities. Communities that are already marginalized and vulnerable, such as small-scale farmers and pastoralists, are disproportionately affected by climate change, leading to increased poverty and social unrest. Moreover, the Nigerian government's response to climate change has been inadequate, characterized by a lack of political will, insufficient funding, and weak institutional capacity. This has led to widespread frustration and mistrust among citizens, who feel that their concerns are not being addressed. Climate change has also become a key issue in Nigeria's foreign policy, as the country seeks to position itself as a leader in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts in Africa. However, this has been undermined by Nigeria's continued reliance on fossil fuels, which contributes significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions. In conclusion, this research on the impact of climate change on Nigerian politics is significant and multifaceted, affecting social, economic, and political dynamics at both the local and national levels. To address these challenges, there is a need for urgent action from the Nigerian government, including the development and implementation of comprehensive climate change policies, the strengthening of institutional capacity, and the promotion of equitable and sustainable development.
