ABSTRACT
Anchored on the tenets of the feminist and cultivation theories, this study analyzed the ideology of feminism and its impact on the Nollywood audience. Three Nollywood movies which are Dry, Mr. & Mrs., and Married but Living Single were studied. It became necessary to embark on the study following the prevalence of gender inequality in Nigerian society and the role of the media particularly Nollywood in curtailing the ugly tide. Employing the content analysis research design, a coding sheet was designed to collate and analyze data gathered from the movies. Data obtained were analyzed in Tables, and a simple percentage was employed in the interpretation of data in some of the items. It was discovered that feminism has a positive impact on the Nollywood audience and that the movies selected strongly portrayed feminism. Thus, the study concluded that Nollywood remains indispensable in the fight against gender inequality for sustainable positive human relationships and continued societal existence. Hence, it was recommended that more movies geared towards fostering the feminist ideology in Nigerian society should be produced and that the Nollywood audience should also exhibit the feminist traits to bring about gender equality.
