Abstract
There have been different ethical theory as to what should constitute a good conduct. The golden rule theory is an ethical theory that aims at peaceful co-existence among members of the society. This work reopens discussions on the golden rule theory in the light of Confucius’ philosophy. Also, philosophers and scholars have over time disagree on what ought to be a right and a wrong action in the society, this work examines Confucius’ philosophy and argued that his golden rule theory is sufficient for the rightness of an action. Furthermore, this work while adopting the critical analysis method, argues that some ethical issues in contemporary societies can be resolved if the teachings and theories of Confucius is judiciously applied. Thus, an examination and adoption of Confucius’ golden rule theory could serve as a panacea to many of the problems in contemporary societies.
