SUMMARY
Despite the sector's importance to the country's food security, the food industry in Nigeria has remained mainly uncontrolled. While consumption of street meals that fall short of the minimal safety standard is harmful to health on an acute or ongoing basis, it has a beneficial influence on food security when they are healthy and nutritious. The results of this investigation show that tiny chops marketed in Benin city, Edo state, are contaminated with fungus. To minimize instances of food borne illnesses, food vendors must constantly clean and sanitize food contact surfaces, correctly prepare and store food, and limit the degree of food contamination and bacterial load to the lowest level. The findings also showed that the kind of food and the vendor's hygiene, for example, had an impact on the amount of fungal contamination in meals.
