Understanding the root causes of Niger Delta Avenger is very important, because using the traditionally known, or orthodox, causes of terrorism to describe all acts of terrorism is not effective in determining why individuals get involved in these acts in a particular place and will hinder the ability to develop meaningful and effective policies to curb terrorism the true cause of a particular act of terrorism is masked behind wrong assumptions. A proper understanding of the root cause can lead states to use force to deal with the issue of terrorism without recourse to the debate surrounding root causes. Such a reaction would be counterproductive. It would not help curb this phenomenon because the root causes would be neither understood nor addressed. The action would temporarily quell the state‘s security needs, but it would not curb huge and lingering problems.
