ABSTRACT

The study empirically investigated the impact of motivation on employee performance in UDSS. Specifically, the study aimed at ascertaining the level of employee motivation in UDSS, to determine the level of organizational performance in UDSS, to determine the motivational methods mostly preferred by employees of UDSS, and to ascertain the causes of employee demotivation in UDSS. To achieve this aim, five research questions were raise, and two hypotheses generated. The study population comprised the 150 staff and employees of UDSS, from which a sample of 109 respondents were conveniently, selected using the Taro yamane’s sample size determination formular. The study adopted a survey research design which entailed the use of questionnaire as research instrument in sampling the opinion of respondents on the subject matter. A total one hundred and ten (110) questionnaires was administered via pick-anddrop method to the employees and staff of UDSS, of which only a hundred and three (103) responses were collated; out of the responses obtained, three (3) were invalid and incomplete, and thus discarded. A total of one hundred (100) responses representing 90.91% of the study sample was found valid and thus used for analysis. Data obtained from the respondents were analyzed using Descriptive statistics, mean, simple percentage, and frequency, presented in tables and graphs; while the linear regression model was utilized in testing the stated hypotheses, Via the Statistical package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version20. Findings obtained from the study indicated among others things that, that a significant relationship exists between motivation and employee performance, which ultimately impacts on the overall performance of the organization. Similarly, the study found that the major factors of employee demotivation are low salary, poor leadership style, and lack of recognition. The findings also indicated that employees will favour motivational methods that focus on reward and recognition. Based on the findings, the study recommended among other things that business should Business organizations should develop and implement a comprehensive motivation strategy that emphasizes reward and recognition, as employees in UDSS preferred these methods. They should consider implementing a rewards and recognition program to acknowledge and appreciate employee contributions.
