summary

From the findings made in this research, it seems obvious that colonialism as really affected the socio-cultural structure of the people of Benin, this impact can been seen in the aspect of mirage, education and the religious lives of the people.

The imposition of colonial rule in Benin created a serious imbalance between the people and the existing pre-colonial activities. The colonial authorities’ were aware of the fact that it needed to dislodge or at best weaken the existing inter-group connections if they were to become effective. With the joint efforts of the Missionaries they needed various changes in the socio political and economic patterns so as to leave the people with European ideas and Civilizations, thereby destroying pre-colonial Benin activities.
