ABSTRACT
Patron clientelism has become a very prominent feature in the Nigerian politics, which has in a long way retarded the democratic process of the country. The high degree of Political apathy in the country has been linked to this topic. Recent research has shown that there is high degree of relationship, the dimension Patron clientelism assumed in recent times in Oredo Local Government area of Edo state, and how ignorance and also how selfish attitude contribute this existence of this Ill in the society. This work talk about the role godfathers have been playing, depicting a negative system to the democratic running of government in Edo state. The most noticeable is the aspect of establishing money politics, where every prospective political aspirant has find and look unto someone who will render assistant to him. Recommendation to the plight of patron clientelism is for it to be tackled by government, civil societies and individuals. This can be through the discouragement of money politics so that each and every citizen will participate in politics without having that in mind as a drawback.
