ABSTRACT
The project work is done to compile data on the effect of some phytogenics on the serum biochemical indices of monogastric animals (poultry, rabbits and swine). Serum biochemical indices including total cholesterol, total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatinine and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were reviewed and compiled from research work carried out in Nigeria. Data was collected from journals and conference proceedings. The ranges and means ± SEM of the various parameters were determined using general statistics and the results were presented. Ginger, black pepper, lime, pawpaw leaf extracts and rubber leaf protein concentrates were discovered to have significant effects on the serum biochemical parameters of poultry and rabbits. Raw velvet bean had a deleterious effect on the serum biochemistry of swine. The values gotten ranged within the reference ranges recommended internationally. Any change from the recommended was as a result of environment, breed type and dietary treatment. The results showed that most phytogenics have robust health benefits and potential in the production of monogastric animals.
