ABSTRACT
The research examined how remittance impact human capital development in Nigeria. It used variables such as secondary school enrollment rate and infant mortality rate as the dependent variable and remittance, population growth rate, government expenditure on health and education and gross domestic product as the independent variables. The data span from 2012 - 2022 and employs the ECM approach, Unit Root Test, co-integration test and diagnostic tests. The result indicates a long run relationship among the variables.
Specifically, this study shows that there is a positive relationship with exchange remittance and secondary school enrollment rate and infant mortality rate, and this satisfies our apriori expectations.
The study also shows that government expenditure on education and health has a positive relationship with secondary school enrollment and infant mortality rate . That is, an increased government spending on education and health has a, positive effect on human capital development poixed by secondary school enrollment and infant mortality rate.
Finally, the study also shows that population growth rate has a negative relationship human capital development proxied by secondary school enrollment and infant mortality rate , which implies that higher population growth rate can lead to decrease or an inadequate investment and spending on education and health, which in turn lead to decrease in human capital development e, and this also conforms to our apriori expectations.
