ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to study the effect of poverty on Education development on citizens using the University of Benin Students as a case study, the study had four objectives which were to: determine the effect of poverty on the academic performance level of University of Benin student, determine the relationship between poverty and Educational development, determine the Extent of Government Intervention in Reducing poverty and improving education of its Citizens and to proffer solutions to the challenges of poverty on Education as defined in the study. The descriptive survey was used in the study with the aid of questionnaires. A sample size of 200 respondents were determined with the Taro Yamene formula. Structured question was used as the research instrument to collect primary data from respondents from the survey. Results from the study shows that majority of the student respondents were females (108) accounting for 54% while the males (46) had a percentage a 46% and were with 20 to 25 years old with an average CGPA of 3.0 to 4.0.
