ABSTRACT
This study is aimed at determining the effect of Greenwayodendron suaveolens powdered seeds on the growth of Marasmiellus inoderma using sawdust as a substrate. Different levels of treatments with the powdered seeds were used from 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, to 20%. Each treatment was replicated five times. The inoculated substrate bags were fully colonized between 18 to 20 days of inoculation. It took the average number of 18 days to attain 100% colonization for 2%, while it took 20 days for 20% and 16 days for control (0%) respectively. The inoculated substrate bags were opened after full colonization to initiate fruiting, it was observed that the mycelia density varies for the different levels of treatments. The mycelia density for 0% and 2% was very spares, while from 4% to 8% was dense and from 10% to 20% was very dense. Fruiting was observed within 3 to 4 days after opening of substrate bags. 14% treatment had the highest fresh weight of (36.47±8.40), followed by 18% (30.14±5.09), while lowest fresh weight was observed in 2% (1.38±0.85), followed by 0% (5.40±1.51) and 20% (13.59±1.41) within two weeks of harvest. The dry weight was also taken and the highest dry weight was observed in 14% treatments (6.09±4.27), followed by 16% (5.09±1.07) and 18% (5.07±0.85), while the lowest dry weight was observed in 2% (0.27±0.17), 0% (0.94±0.24) and 20% (2.36±0.29).. The biological efficiency was highest in 14% treatment (8.68%), followed by 18% (7.17%) and 12% (6.57%), and the lowest biological efficiency was observed in 2% treatment (0.32), followed by 0% (1.29) and 20% (3.24%). This study shows that substrate bags supplemented with 6% to 18% enhanced the time of mycelial colonization, fruit body formation and the mushroom yield. Increase in the supplement above 18% did not support the growth of the mushroom.
