ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the effects of a 6-minute walk test on systolic blood pressure (SBP), Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), pulse rate, and oxygen saturation in obese individuals. A total of Forty (40) obese participants were recruited for the study. Baseline measurements of SBP, DBP, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation were recorded before the 6-minute walk test. Participants then completed the 6-minute walk test under standardized conditions. Post-test measurements of SBP, DBP, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation were obtained immediately after the completion of the test.The statistical analysis was performed with Graph Pad Prism Version 8.1. The standard error of mean (SEM) was used in tables and graphs to display the results. The dependent and independent variable means were compared using the student t-test. P<0.05 was accepted as significant.The results revealed a significant increase in pulse rate (p < 0.05) following the 6-minute walk test, indicating a physiological response to moderate-intensity exercise in obese individuals. However, there were no significant changes in SBP (p > 0.05) or oxygen saturation (p > 0.05) before and after the test.These findings suggest that while the 6-minute walk test elicited a cardiovascular response in terms of increased pulse rate, it did not result in significant alterations in Systolic Blood Pressure, Diastolic blood pressure or oxygen saturation in obese individuals.
