THE EFFECT OF BI- HERBAL FORMULATION OF PINEAPPLE JUICE AND COCONUT MILK

ABSTRACT

Reproduction is a process which generates new life, guarantees the survival of the existing species, and protects the subsequent generations. Infertility or inability to reproduce is a serious worldwide health problem and is defined as the failure to conceive after at least a year of frequent, unprotected sexual activity. It has been claimed that Bi-herbal formulation of pineapple juice and Coconut milk has fertility effects on male reproductive parameters and organs but much information is not available to justify this claim. The present study was aimed at evaluating the effect of Bi-herbal formulation of pineapple juice and Coconut milk on male reproductive parameters and organs. Daily oral doses (500 and 1000 mg/kg) of the Bi-herbal mixtures were administered to each animal in four different test groups for 28 consecutive days. The result revealed slightly increased in the body and organ weight across the treated groups especially the rat treated with higher dose. The sperm characteristics reproductive hormones such as luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), estrogen 2 (E2) and testosterone levels in male albino rats were investigated. (p<0.05) dose dependent significantly increase in the levels of testosterone, sperm motility and sperm count of the treated animals when compared with the control, while luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and estrogen 2 (E2) significantly (p<0.05) decreased respectively. These findings suggest that the Bi-herbal formulation of pineapple juice and Coconut milk has fertility activity in male.
